Partisan Wines

Partisan Wines 'Trench Coat' McLaren Vale Grenache Shiraz Mouvedre 2012
The orchestra of GSM are well in harmony on the nose with plenty of red and yellow plum, black fruits with hints of chocolate and pepper, chunky oak with toast and vanilla moments. On the palate - dry, warm, spicy and quite fruity. Flavors described above return. Fairly abrupt finish and still a little warm. A food oriented wine with immediate drinkability and through 2016.

Mills Reef

Mills Reef Elspeth Gimblett Gravels Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Bold, masculine, fruity and rich bouquet - with blackberry, black cherry, tobacco and cigar box, bold toasty oak aromas and baked stone mineral. On the palate - dry, full-bodied, powerful and fruity. Black berry and dark plum fruits; bold oak, big flashy tannins and a long and complex finish. Very youthful. Drinking at its best from 2017 - 2025.

Stoneleigh

Stoneleigh Wild Valley Wild Ferment Sauvignon Blanc 2015
Very vibrant expressive bouquet of tropical fruits - pineapple, apple, passion fruit. The 'classic' sweet hay and grassy/vegetal aromas make their mark as well.On the palate - fruity, crisp and quivering with high acidity, lots of tropical fruit flavors alongside lemon and crisp apple. Fairly lengthy finish and well made.

Kalex Central Otago 'Alex Kaufman' Riesling 2014
Fabulous bouquet bursting with aromas of sweet mandarin, lemon and crisp apple, lime flower and orange blossom; steely stony mineral and lemon rind. On the palate - off dry with noticeable sugar, but immediately contrasted by concentrated acidity; lemon, apple, mandarin and lime flower flavors, long crisp and refreshing finish. A delicious wine!

Spade Oak Vineyard

Spade Oak Vineyard Gisborne 'Vigneron' Viognier 2014
Quite fragrant with a floral moment leading the aromas of sweet, fresh apricot and other yellow orchard fruits; a light leesy appeal and light honey oak lift. On the palate - just dry and quite fruity with plenty of orchard fruits and apricot leading the pack; honey note, nutty note and quite juicy with medium acidity, medium+ body and a longish finish. Balanced and well made.

Matawhero

Matawhero Gisborne 'Church House' Barrel fermented Chardonnay 2013
Plenty of barrel ferment in the bouquet with roasted stone fruits and cashew laced popcorn, a burnt butter and butterscotch layer as well; vanilla and light brown spices round out and finish the aroma profile. On the palate - classic style - with nutty, buttery and bold full-bodied expression - peach and roasted stone fruit flavors with raw brown sugar and vanilla spiced oak flavors; medium+ (ish) acidity, a few wood tannins and medium length. Overall a crowd pleasing wine with 2-3 years maturity ahead.

Triple Rose Estate

Triple Rose Estate Kumeu 'Year of the Thorn' Merlot 2014
Classic and fragrant bouquet of Merlot with sweet dark plum and darker berry fruit aromas; I like the violets and velvet rose moment and mild yet noticeable toasty oak layer. On the palate - dry and fruity with the flavors of Doris plum, fresh and baked plum and dark red berry fruits; medium+ acidity and medium (ish) tannins add some decent texture and structure; the oak is ever present, but not invasive so well placed; the finish is moderate+ with the floral side of the wine lingering. Well made!
