Matawhero ‘Irwin’ Chardonnay 2016 Gisborne

This is quite simply the best Chardonnay I have tasted from Matawhero with aromas, flavours and textures of ripe, fleshy yellow stone fruits, red and yellow apple, soft creamy texture at first then firmer textures from the oak and acidity adding much to the structure and palate feel. Flavours include toasty oak baking spice combinations, grapefruit and other citrus moments. Some finer oak tannins add even more texture and length. Balanced and well made, lengthy finish and food friendly. Drink now and through 2026.
